1. Scope

This policy explains how the Folklore Archive Android application and the folklore-archive.com website handle information. Folklore Archive does not provide user accounts and does not ask users to submit their name, email address, phone number, postal address, payment information or passwords.

2. Information and permissions not requested

The application does not request Android permission to access precise or approximate device location, contacts, photos, videos, personal files, camera, microphone, SMS messages, call logs, calendar, nearby devices, or health and fitness data.

Release builds use technical Android permissions for internet and network-state access, advertising identifiers and Privacy Sandbox advertising services, and background operations required by the application framework and Google Mobile Ads. These permissions do not give Folklore Archive access to the personal content listed above.

3. Information kept on the device

The selected language, saved entries, completed-reading status, advertising frequency counters, a local cache of like status, consent state and a randomly generated installation identifier are stored on the device. This information supports application preferences, reading features, advertising frequency control and anonymous likes. Android backup is disabled for the application. Uninstalling the application or clearing its data removes this local information.

4. Anonymous likes

When the application retrieves like counts, it sends a randomly generated installation identifier and one or more archive entry identifiers to a Cloudflare Workers service. The identifier is not an account, is not derived from hardware identifiers and is not designed to reveal the user’s identity. Read requests are used to return aggregate counts and the current installation’s like state; they are not stored as entry-view history.

When a user likes or unlikes an entry, Cloudflare D1 stores or removes a record containing the archive entry identifier, anonymous installation identifier and timestamps. This allows one like per installation. Folklore Archive does not collect entry-view history or view counts.

Cloudflare receives network information such as an IP address and operational request data to deliver, secure, monitor and rate-limit the service. Folklore Archive uses the connecting IP address transiently for network-level rate limiting and does not store it in the D1 like database.

5. Advertising and consent

The application uses Google Mobile Ads and Google’s User Messaging Platform. Depending on device support, regional requirements and consent choices, the Google Mobile Ads SDK may automatically collect or share an IP address, approximate location inferred from the IP address, advertising or device/account identifiers, application and advertising interactions, and diagnostic information. Google processes this information for advertising, ad delivery and measurement, analytics, security and fraud prevention.

Where required, a Google-certified consent message is shown before advertising requests are enabled. Users can review available privacy choices from the application settings. Ads may be personalised or non-personalised according to consent choices and applicable settings. Internal and development builds use Google test advertising inventory.

6. Website

The public website does not provide accounts or forms and does not use advertising cookies. It uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, a cookie-free measurement service that uses a small beacon to collect aggregate performance and usage metrics. Cloudflare may also process an IP address, browser and request information, and operational logs to deliver, measure and protect the website. The website uses the browser’s Accept-Language request header only to choose an English or Turkish page; it does not save a language preference in a cookie or account.

7. Support communications

If a user voluntarily contacts the address below, Folklore Archive receives the sender’s email address and the contents of the message. Users should not include passwords, payment details or other unnecessary sensitive information. Support correspondence is used only to answer the request, investigate a reported problem and meet applicable legal obligations.

8. Sharing and service providers

Folklore Archive does not directly sell user data. Information is processed only as described in this policy by Cloudflare for website, API, security and database infrastructure; by Google and participating advertising providers for consent, advertising, measurement, analytics, security and fraud prevention; and by the email provider used for support correspondence. These providers process information under their own terms and privacy policies.

9. Retention and deletion

Information stored on the device remains until it is changed, removed, the application data is cleared or the application is uninstalled. A server-side anonymous like remains until the user removes that like or the service operator deletes the record for maintenance, security or legal reasons. Because no account is used, clearing application data or uninstalling the application does not automatically remove an existing server-side like and also removes the local identifier needed to recognise it. Users who want to remove a like should therefore unlike it before clearing application data or uninstalling the application.

Support correspondence is retained only for as long as reasonably needed to answer the request, investigate a problem or meet legal obligations. Cloudflare, Google and the support email provider retain information according to their applicable service settings and privacy practices. Privacy or deletion enquiries may be sent to the contact address below; the ability to locate a record may be limited because Folklore Archive does not associate anonymous installation identifiers with a person’s identity.

10. User choices and rights

Users can remove individual likes inside the application, remove saved entries, clear locally stored application data through Android settings, and manage available advertising privacy choices from the application settings. Depending on their location, users may also have rights concerning access, deletion, objection or withdrawal of consent. Requests can be sent to the contact address below.

12. Children

The application is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly request personal information from children.

13. Security and changes

Network requests use HTTPS, the application does not provide user accounts, and server-side like records use pseudonymous identifiers. No system can guarantee absolute security. This policy will be updated when the application’s data practices change, and the effective date above will be revised.
